1 Day Wasini Dhow trip

Morning: Departure and Dhow Cruise Start

Early Morning: Depart from your hotel in Diani, Mombasa, or nearby areas and drive to Shimoni (around 1-2 hours depending on your location).
8:30-9:00 AM: Arrive at Shimoni and board a traditional Swahili dhow.
Dhow Cruise: Set sail into the Indian Ocean. The boat ride is scenic, with beautiful ocean views and a relaxed atmosphere. Refreshments are often served onboard.

Mid-Morning: Dolphin Watching and Snorkeling

Dolphin Spotting: Head towards the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, known for its rich marine life. You’ll have a chance to spot dolphins swimming alongside the dhow.
Snorkeling: Enjoy snorkeling or diving in the marine park, known for its colorful coral reefs and abundant fish. Gear is usually provided, and instructors are on hand to help beginners.

Noon: Lunch on Wasini Island

Lunch: Sail to Wasini Island and have lunch at a local restaurant or a setup arranged by the tour provider. The meal often includes freshly caught seafood, Swahili dishes, and tropical fruit.
Relaxation: Take in the serene environment, walk around the village, or explore the coral gardens and boardwalk.

Afternoon: Cultural Experience and Return

Village Tour (Optional): Visit Wasini village to learn about the local Swahili culture and history. You can also see the famous ancient coral gardens and the mangrove forests.
Return to Shimoni: Sail back to the mainland and enjoy the final leg of your dhow journey with beautiful views of the coastline.

Late Afternoon: Return to Your Hotel

3:00-4:00 PM: Disembark at Shimoni and drive back to your hotel.
Evening: Arrive at your hotel after a day of adventure and relaxation.

Full day Wasini Dolphin Trip
You will be picked form your hotel in the morning, from north coast will be at 6:00am and from south coast hotels will be at 7:15am. Drive to shimoni village (famous for the caves which were used as shelter for the slaves awaiting for shipment) After marine park formalities we will walk to the jetty for our boat ride to Kisite Marine Park for snorkeling. Wasini Island lies off the southern Indian Ocean coast of Kenya next to Shimoni. It is approximately 5km long and 1km across.

The Island is sparsely populated and undeveloped. There are no cars or roads. The island is next to the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park. A site of early Swahili civilization, its attractions include exposed coral reefs.The coral island is occupied by the Vumba people(an indigenous group of the Niger Congo, Bantu speaking dialect who have a rich history, they speak Swahili and kivumba, a number of about 1500, Women groups in the island have established wasini island nature walk in the beautiful coral gardens of wasini. The proceeds help the needy wasini students
Wasini dolphin trip
After about 2 hours of snorkeling and dolphin watching. you will sail to Wasini island restaurant for lunch (Sea food lunch) fish, crabs, rice cooked on coconut milk and (Lobster – at extra cost) After lunch you will cross the channel to Shimoni mainland. Optionally you can visit the slave caves if you wish at extra cost. Your transport will take you back to your hotel.
